How a custom trip works
Tell us three things: your dates, who’s coming, and what you’re curious about. We come back with a day-by-day itinerary — morning Mandarin lessons (two per day is the classic rhythm), afternoons of guided discovery, meals worth crossing the world for, and a coordinator you can reach throughout the trip. Trips run three days to four weeks, year-round; families get lessons levelled separately for parents and kids on the same schedule.
Sample routes
Every trip is custom, but four pairings have earned favourite status:
- Beijing & Tianjin — Great Wall, Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, then the high-speed rail to Tianjin’s Ancient Culture Street; Peking duck, Goubuli baozi, mahua.
- Beijing & Xi’an — the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Tang All Day Mall after the capital’s classics; roujiamo and biangbiang noodles.
- Beijing & Chengdu — the Giant Panda Research Base, Kuanzhai Alley, and Du Fu’s Thatched Cottage; tea houses, mahjong, hotpot, mapo tofu.
- Beijing & Shanghai — Summer Palace to the Bund and Yu Garden by high-speed train; xiaolongbao and Chenghuang Temple snacks.
Kunming — our third teaching city — anchors a slower, spring-city route on request.
Chinese that pays off same-day
Lessons are built from the travel register of our Spoken Chinese method: transport, ordering, bargaining, asking your way — sentence formulas you drill in the morning and spend in the afternoon. Beginners can take the popular two-and-two format: a two-week speaking boost in Beijing, then two weeks of free travel with the Hantube app for review on the road.
Dates & pricing
Custom means the price follows the plan: group size, cities, hotel class, and season all move it. Lessons, activities, and excursions are included. Send us your dates and wish-list and you’ll have a full itinerary and quote to react to — revising it is half the fun.

What it looks like
Good to know
Your questions, answered
How custom is custom — can we change the sample routes?
Completely. The sample pairings are starting points, not packages: swap cities, stretch or shrink the days, tilt the trip toward food, history, hiking, or art. You react to a draft itinerary and we revise until it's yours.
We're absolute beginners — will lessons on holiday really help?
That's the trip they help most. Travel Chinese — ordering, buying, directions — is the easiest register to learn fast, and using it the same afternoon locks it in. Beginners who want more take the two-week speaking boost in Beijing before two weeks of free travel.
Can children come?
Yes — family trips are a specialty. Parents and kids get lessons levelled separately on the same timetable, and afternoons and excursions are shared. Tell us ages when you inquire and the itinerary is built around them.
What's included in the price?
Lessons, planned activities and workshops, guided excursions, and trip coordination are all included; hotels, inter-city rail, and flights are arranged to your budget and quoted separately in the itinerary, so there are no surprises.
